Opportunity in action.

The founder of the DOE Foundation had the honour of serving as Head Debate Coach of the Moroccan National Debate Team at the historic World Schools Debating Championships (WSDC) held in Nairobi, Kenya. The experience marked a significant milestone, as the Moroccan team competed alongside students and teams representing 75 nations from around the world. Despite this being the students’ first WSDC, Omar, Adam, and Hiba delivered an impressive performance, securing three unanimous victories during the competition. Beyond the competition itself, the event provided an opportunity to connect with some of the world’s leading young debaters, coaches, and educators while celebrating the power of debate to develop confidence, critical thinking, communication, and leadership among young people. The DOE Foundation extends its appreciation to WSDC Convenor Njuguna Macharia and his dedicated team for successfully hosting such a remarkable international event in Nairobi. For the DOE Foundation, the experience was a powerful reminder of the transformative impact debate can have on young people. It reinforced our commitment to creating opportunities that equip students with the skills, confidence, and platforms they need to become purposeful leaders.

The DOE Foundation, in partnership with the Chen Initiative, successfully organised the Abuja Schools Debate Tournament (ASDT) 2026, bringing together 20 schools from across Abuja for a celebration of debate, critical thinking, and intellectual excellence. The tournament provided students with an opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills in research, argumentation, public speaking, and critical reasoning while engaging with peers from schools across the city. After a highly competitive tournament, the top three schools were recognised for their outstanding performances: * Winner: Lela Blossom Schools * 1st Runner-Up: Joach Care Academy * 2nd Runner-Up: Focus Frontier Academy In recognition of their achievements, all three schools received monetary awards for their exceptional performances. The tournament also recognised the individual excellence of students, with awards presented to the *Top 3 Debaters* and the *Outstanding Debater of ASDT 2026* for their exceptional reasoning, eloquence, and intellectual performance throughout the competition. As part of the Foundation’s commitment to making educational opportunities more accessible, Lela Blossom Schools, the tournament winner, received a 20% tuition scholarship covering a full academic year. In addition, through the generous support of TKEthics, the Top 3 student debaters received entry scholarships to the Global AI Debates, giving them the opportunity to compete on an international platform for a share of a $3,500 cash prize pool. ASDT 2026 reflects the power of strategic partnerships in creating meaningful opportunities for young people. The DOE Foundation is grateful to the Chen Initiative and TKEthics for supporting the tournament and helping us expand access to opportunities that nurture confident, articulate, and purposeful young leaders. We congratulate all participating schools, students, coaches, and partners whose dedication and commitment made ASDT 2026 a remarkable success. We look forward to seeing these young debaters continue to grow and make their voices heard both within and beyond the debate arena.

In partnership with the Modus Ponens Institute and TKEthics, this program is more than a competition: it’s a masterclass in critical thinking, meaningful dialogue, and ethical leadership. Most importantly, in line with our commitment to equity and access, the DOE Foundation is offering free training to students from low-resource schools, ensuring that talent and potential, not privilege, determine who gets to be heard.
